The product is a mobile app and responsive website for children that helps them learn about and explore their emotions.
-
The Problem:
The problem is that it’s hard to find dedicated apps for children that have no ads, aren’t hidden behind a paywall, and give the child multiple ways to learn about and explore emotions.
-
The Goal:
The goal is to make a website and app that can help engage the child and keep them interested and motivated to learn about their emotions on a practical level.
-
My Role:
I was involved with the project as UX/UI designer. I ideated different options, created paper and digital wireframes, conducted usability studies, and created digital high fidelity prototypes. I used Figma for the entirety of this project.
User Persona
One pain point is that the app and website needs to be easy enough and accessible for younger users
Pain Points
The app will be free for all users and have no ads to make it easier for young audiences
Many users expressed a concern about sites who asked for more personal information that was needed to sign up, so this app contains no signup required at all.
Some parents expressed a desire to have a way to cater the app to multiple children.
Paper and Digital Wireframes
Mockups and Usability findings
The users thought that the character creation screen was a bit too complicated for some of the younger users. Testing with those younger users proved to be true, so I switched the interface to a much simpler one, where the child could choose which monster they liked best instead of fully customizing one.
Accessibility Considerations
I tried to make sure the colors had a good enough contrast to pass WCAG tests
I made sure that there was the ability to replay the audio and that there were subtitles available for kids who may have hearing difficulties.
